Tutorial:

A Tutorial is basically a book, audio- or video-file which provides “how-to” instructions on the use of a computer system or software or standard procedure to accomplish desired results in a certain area. It is the computer-based, interactive method of learning.

The difference between a manual and a Tutorial is that a manual lists all features, buttons, menus etc. of a software or a technical device whereas a Tutorial is very procedure oriented and details exactly what actions to perform and which buttons to push when to achieve a desired result.

With the help of tutorials the user can follow a step-by-step process to learn new skills. For instance, if a user wanted to create a web page, the tutorial would give them the idea how to add various table layouts, style texts or images to the page and provide instructions on how to do these different steps to a satisfactory result.

As the willingness of computer users to read text is decreasing consistently video tutorials are a booming segment in Internet marketing.

Video tutorials in the form of full motion videos or most often screen capture videos, where the user can watch the computer screen of the tutor performing the actions and listening to his voice explaining what he does, are much easier to follow for most users. Therefore many Internet marketers include full “how to” video tutorials into the bonuses of their software products
offers.

And video tutorials on specialized Internet marketing strategies, e.g. how to implement and optimize Google AdSense on one’s website, are amongst their best selling products.

Video Tutorial

Example of a screen capture Video Tutorial, in this case as part of Jason Potash’s Article Announcer, an article marketing pack on the subject of researching article directories to discover hot niches. The tutor is just in the process of circling one part of the screen to emphasize an important point.

[Tutorial comes from Latin tutor = guardian, watcher]
