Deep Link:
A Deep Link is a link
which does not refer to the homepage
of a website
but directly to one of it’s sub pages.
An example for a deep
link would be http://www.hdtvplace.com/product_reviews/samsung
rather than just http://www.hdtvplace.com
.
Instead of only build links
to his homepage a webmaster should also consider to include
Deep Links in his linking strategy because of the following
reasons:
-
He would lead
visitors directly to the part of his website with the
most relevant content for their needs without them
landing on his homepage and then having to search for
and navigate to the page of their interest (which they
probably won’t do if they can’t find it very
easily).
-
Link
exchange
and building link directories was one of the most
popular ways of establishing link
popularity for a
website with the search engines. Due to changes in
search engine algorithms it is not so popular anymore
and webmasters tend to just ignore emails with a
request of exchanging links. Asking for a Deep Link,
however, is still somewhat new and might attract
attention, especially if they are offered a Deep Link
from one of the content pages instead of one from the
dumps of a huge link directory. The ideal is a Deep
Link from a relevant content
page to a relevant page within another
website.
-
It is the
best way for building up link popularity for your sub
pages which might be designed for specific
keywords
other than the keywords for you home
page.
