Branding:

There are two marketing definitions for Branding:

  1. The process of developing one’s company or product into a brand that more and more people automatically connect with a certain, preferably positive image, experience and expectation. Google , Yahoo!, Windows etc. have become such brands in the online world where almost everyone knows what it is and what it stands for. This type of Branding is done by advertising in sufficient volume to create the desired public effect.

  1. Branding an ebook means that buyers or recipients (if the ebook was given away as a gift) of the book are granted and make use of the right to place their own affiliate link (s) in the book. As most ebooks are in pdf format it requires special software to brand them.
    A very workable
viral marketing technique is, to create an ebook and connect the resell rights or give-away rights with the right for every owner to Brand the ebook with his own affiliate link and then pass it along to others, either as a free gift or sell it. This, of course, increases motivation to distribute the ebook to as many as possible because of the potential to generate affiliate income. The benefit for the author is that he still can have some of his own links in the book (i.e. not all get replaced in the process of Branding) and thereby profit from it’s wide distribution through affiliates.

[Branding comes from Middle and Old English brand = a burning piece of wood, torch]
